Which is to say - nintendo is banning people enmasse from online use for using Custom Firmwares. (hacking)

It appears that users are being banned from 3DS online services, en masse. There's no direct cause right now, and seemingly no linking factor. This post is meant as an announcement for users, to be wary, and that GBAtemp will keep you updated as soon as more info rolls in. If you have been banned, please post in the thread below, and we will try to keep tabs on the situation. To be extra sure, it can't hurt to turn off your 3DS's wireless capabilities, so you might as well do that for now.

yeah, well, you have to be some kind of idiot for going online with a custom firmware to begin with. I have an older CFW on my 3ds and would never dream of playing online with it.
 
This is the console version of VAC bans. Even mobile gamers will need to learn that it's perfectly fine to cheat and hack all your single player games to your hearts desire, but there are repercussions to bringing your unfair advantage online.
 
First thing I did with my PSP was get custom firmware so I could play emulated games. Actually, I bought the PSP for that reason alone since my phone wasn't able to handle anything other than turn-based RPGs. The on-screen controls were a bit finicky at times and when I used a PS2 controller on my phone, I had to find a stable surface so I could prop it up and where I was working at the time didn't offer many avenues for using a controller.

I sold mine last year, it was pretty open to customization then. I remember using rogue encampment theme from diablo 2 as my home menu music.

Apparently hacking the 3ds was made just about dummy proof pretty recenty with SigHax.
