I'm going to be studying in Germany this spring, and as such am not taking my Wii or my PC (just my laptop). Is it worth it to get a Nintendo DS? What good games does it have?

The game title have alot to do with what system you would like to play. A hand held doesn't replace a computer or full console, but they are fun for certain occasions. Here are links to the top rated DS game for you to peruse:

Games Rated above 90%

Games rated above 80%

And ames rated above 70%

Anything below that you probably would want to avoid unless you are a huge fan of a series etc.

I would highly recommend it... I use mine almost every day, and I've had it for seven months now. Great bang for the buck!

I got mine about a month ago, and got an R4 revolution for it. Pretty nice little combo, I love it and use it almost every day. I love being able to play music and movies on the thing now.

Final Fantasy Tactics advance is addictive.

Can someone explain what R4 revolution is and how it works. Someone posted a link once as an answer but it really didn't explain what it was all about. I assume this is an add-on for the DS? Explain?

That review still doesn't explain concisely what the R4 does! Thats the problem with the last link. Can someone explain to this old codger please? Does it let you down load MP3 songs to a card and play them on your DS making it an MP3 player? Does it do other things? Splain pleez.

Get a DS. est money I have ever spent. There are many good games out there and many more to come. If you like to play older, retro games (ie. Yoshi's Island, NES Mario games, etc.) then the DS would be the best choice out of any portable out there as the big N is catering to their older gamers with Yoshi's Island DS, New Super Mario Bros., and Mario Kart DS. As for the recommendation for the R4, I suggest the M3 Real. It's the newest thing out there. The M3 has better Download Play compatibility than the R4, support for HC Micro SD cards (I haven't found anything that states that the R4 can support HC microSD cards), and at GameYeeeah, for the price of an R4 by itself, you can get an M3 Real with the Rumble/RAM pack.

The R4 is a Slot-1 card that allows the Nintendo DS to play ROMs without flashing the BIOS. The MP3 and movie functionality are just additional features.

Thanks Gundam

So by roms you mean there are other games you can download to the roms and plug them in to the DS and it will play them?

The primary function of the Slot-1 devices are to play NDS ROMs. Now, some Slot-1 cards (like the M3 Real I mentioned) have some ROMs built in that can allow the card to play NES, Genesis, Master System, and SNES ROMs. Also, if the card has good homebrew compatibility, you might be able to put an emulator on a MicroSD card (or whatever format the card uses) and use that. There are many NintendoDS home brewed emulators.
Here's a list of some, but not all of the emulators available for the Nintendo DS.

I pretty much live in BFE (aka, Mississippi) and there's a shortage of DS around here.

I dunno, I'm gonna try again tomorrow but today I tried Gamestop, Gamecrazy, target, costco, wal-mart, Fry's, Circuit City, and best buy and none of them had a single ds in any color.

I got a DS when it came out, and I don't really ever use it. The only game I really play on it is Brain Age.

I never had a handheld so it should be fun. I have the zelda game cuz someone bought it for me for xmas. THey thought I had a DS> I really want to play contra 4, new smb, Castlevania games, and Advance War. I saw the demo of Ninja Gaiden and it looks pretty freakin sick.

Just picked up Rune Factory Harvest Moon. I started it last night and its seems like a well done game so far. I never wanted to do strictly a farming game but this one includes some dungeon crawling along side to make it more interesting and fun. I might pick up some of the FF games like III & Rev Wings after a while. The look well done also.

Zelda impressed me. At first, the stylus only controls threw me off but once I got used to them they were very solid. I beat the game last night and I enjoyed every minute of it. Now to go back and collect all the useless stuff. :)

Can anyone comment on the DS Final Fantasy games? I like RPGs and I read the FF III review. They said it was a difficult game. I'm not your hard core gamer so that made me concerned. I am considering FF III and FF Rev Wings. If anyone can comment on those and/or any other RPGs, please do! Thanks!

FFIII always required a little bit of extra grinding, since the levels of enemies often radically jumped up. However, it definately isn't a 'hard core' RPG by any means. Also, FF Rev Wings is a different game, but some find the gameplay system unique. I have heard varying opinions, some good and some bad, but none seem to find the game horrible.
