My son wants a DS for christmas. He will be 6 in January BTW. Would the newer XL version be too big for his hands? I know that's probably hard for some to answer but if you have kids and bought them the XL, what are their ages?

Main reason I wanted to go with the XL is because they have a special version that comes with a couple of games for ~179.

My 5 soon to be 6 year old on dec 11 steals his older bros xl all the time now and wants to replace his ds light with one cause he likes the bigger screen and has no issues at all with the size, he has been playing on it for 6 months or so since I bought the older one a umm R4 umm card overseas. Man that thing was the best invention ever for those.

My 6 y/o son plays with the XL just fine. He did drop it a few times though o_O

Oh and it turns out he didn't really need games either. I just converted some of his favorite songs to aac and put them in an SD card, and he's so happy playing with the voice/sound modifiers. That and the camera filters and he's good for hours :)

Thanks everyone. Went and got him the DSi Xl today. Gonna give it to him for christmas but it looks like it should be fine.

Any suggestions on must have accessories? Only thing I can think of is a case and maybe a screen protector.

Definitely get a screen protector. Might also want to grab a couple cheap extra stylus pens because they may loose them. For a case, he might be like my kids who continually take it out of the case as they play it so mine turned out to be more of a storage case.
