NiMH question...

I have a set of four Energizer 2500mHa NiMH batts with the cheap overnight charger it came with. I'm looking into picking up a quick charger. I know Energizer sells a 15-minute charger, but it's rated for up to 2200mHa batts (it says higher rated batteries will take longer to charge). Does anyone have an idea as to how much longer it will take? Thanks a bunch.

It should only take a few extra minutes to charge them. Just so you know, a lot of those Energizer 2500mAH batteries have extremely high self discharge rates. I've got two packs (8 batteries) and they all self discharge almost completely within a couple weeks. I've also read reports from other people having the same problem.

Are you sure they are the 2500mAH Energizers? Those are the only ones I know of that have the problem. If they are, do they have any letters stamped into the bottom?

self-discharge has nothing to do with the longevity of the battery; it's how quickly the battery will lose its charge when unused. Typically, rechargeable batteries lose anywhere from 1% to 4% of their charge in a day, at room temperature.

Get a Maha charger. They're good and will probably charge your batteries the best.

You might be able to get it cheaper at Thomas Distributing.

Oh the Newegg one is expensive because it looks like it comes with batteries. You should be able to get it without batteries somewhere. And just a FYI that Maha and some other non-name-brand batteries are really good. At least in the past Energizer rechargeables used to suck compared to other Maha and Sanyo type batteries.

< 20 minutes. NiMH can take almost as much power as you can throw at them.

They are stamped HR on the bottom.

I've been using them religiously in my Canon A40 since I got it. I bought the batteries and charger the same time as the camera.

Edit: I just got a wireless Optical Mouse that uses two AA's so I got a set (four) of 2500ma from Batteries plus brand (nuon) with their charger. I'll see how they do compared to the Energizer's.

Quick charge = early battery death.

Make the extra time and slow charge your batteries, only use a quick charger in emergencies.

Yeah it's the Energizer 2500mAh stamped HR that are usually bad. Maybe you got a good set. Most of them seem to be completely dead within a couple weeks, however if you use them right out of the charger they DO get their rated capacity.

BTW, I used mine in the exact same camera (Canon A40)

as for babying batteries, dont worry about it, its so cheap it doesn't matter.
