NiMH Batteries

I need some rechargeable AA and AAA NiMH batteries. Need a charger for them as well. Any suggestions? How are the ones from Radio Shack?

I know I'm gonna get some flames for this, but I have about 50 AA NMiH from Monster Cable and their digital chargers. The fact that I got these at discount could put out the flames a bit though. They're great, 1800 mAh each and takes about 3 hrs to full charge, the digital chargers do a great job of trickle charging.

I went out to Target today and picked up 4 AAA Energizer NiMH batteries. Also got an Energizer wall charger to go along with them. I'm kind iffy now with the charger. Says it takes up to 15 hours to charge. Think I should take it back and get the 1 hour Rayovac charger? I only paid $10 for the charger while the Rayovac was like $20+.

I just got 10 Rayovacs and the 15 minute charger. It was pricey but I figure it will be more cost effective in the long run. Too bad they didn't rank in the chart you listed. They are 2000 Mah though...whatever that means, lol!

• As alluded to earlier, one important, albeit somewhat informal finding at this point: The Rayovac 1-hour charger does indeed seem to get the batteries too hot. - I observed with several different sets of batteries from various manufacturers that repeated charge cycles in the Rayovac resulted in a noticeable and continuing decrease in maximum capacity. (Two sets of cells even vented, a very unusual occurrence in my experience.) It's darn fast, and charges the batteries pretty completely, but definitely seems to have a negative impact on battery life.

I've noticed mention of heat and batteries over and over. The new chargers by Ridgid actually have a fan built into it. DeWalt has a similar charger and fan cooled battery!
