18-55mm lens, part of a refurb D3200 kit.

The zoom travel is smooth from 18mm to just past 45mm, but then I encounter stiff resistance. Once you get past that it's fine on out to 55mm.
Nothing feels loose or out of place.

Is that the new normal for modern plastic lenses?

Background Info.
This is my first dslr. I used to shoot film with a F3HP. I thought that was the last body I'd ever need. My digital experience has just been basic P&S cameras.

Hmmm, I've been cycling it back and forth. It does seem to have smoothed out some, but there is still a notch. It has a 90-da warranty; I think I'll continue to use it and see how it goes.

Anyone else run into this issue?

Nope, mine is smooth as butter. Take advantage of the warranty if it doesn't smooth out completely within a day or so. Probably a simple repair, but if it's covered, why not?
