Hi all,

I need some help with choosing a lens for my Nikon. It's down to the following two lenses:

Nikon - 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D for $280
Nikon - 24-120MM F/3.5-5.6D AF Lens for $470

Suggestions/Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

what types of pictures are you gonna be taking.

You should probably take the one with the lens aperture that fits your style of shooting.

The zoom isn't too much of a difference in comparison.

I was always partial to the 70-210. Given your two choices, I'd say go with the 28-105, it's a little faster. AS mentioned before, a lot is depending on what you like to shoot.

If this is the lens you're going to keep on the camera most of the time, then go with the faster lens, it's more likely to cover the most situations.

I've got the 24-120, absolutely love it... great speed, durablility, size. Also have a Tamaron 70-210.. another very nice lense for medium distances.

Probably depends on your shooting style. I would prefer to use two lenses, something wider than 24 to the normal range and normal to 200+. I use a nicor 85 mm 1.8 for protraits.

I would buy the 28-105mm lens as that would/will probably just stay on the camera as your daily user. I would then buy a fixed focal length lens in the 20 to 24mm range. Looking to save some $$ you can go with a manual lens here. Focusing on short focal length lenses is not critical as they produce a very wide depth of field, even at large apertures. I use the Vivitar 20mm AIS manual focus lens on my Nikon N90s with outstanding results. I bought it on eBay for $55
