This was taken on a $67 Nikon 28-85 f/3.5-4.5 I bought off Ebay...

why not buy a cheap 35mm f/1.8 lens for indoor use? you can get it for under $200 and it will autofocus.

for the tokina 11-16mm, i used to own that. for ultra wide angle, you really don't need autofocus. 99% of the time, I had the lens at the infinite setting.

I do own a 35mm prime for indoor use. It performs great, but I've found that during parties or family events it's much less obtrusive while shooting candid shots to be zooming with the lens instead of zooming with the feet.

I picked up the 16-85mm and am quite happy with the results and range so far. The lens is as sharp as people say, and my only complaint is weakness in low light but I knew that going in. The Tokina 11-16mm just came in yesterday, and I have to say I am digging the constant aperture and its much wider reach. I should be happy with this set up for a long time. I can't wait to reshoot that bridge shot with both my new learning of the camera and the new lens(es).

Thanks to everyone who helped in this discussion.
