me too .. it's steep but that's a given considering it's FX and retro, those 2 things drive the cost. I know a lot of people say at the price point, they'd rather have a D800 but ... sweet jesus the DF is nice.

If I didn't already have a D600 I would probably consider it. As it is now I can't justify spending that much for what is mostly a side grade at best and downgrade at worse featurewise.

I don't think this is a side- / down-grade. It has the weather sealing of the D800 and the internals of a D4. That's pretty good in my opinion.

I have no intention of replacing my D600 with one of these, but if I could afford it / justify it, I would.

I just meant that when compared feature to feature the D600/D610 are more complete cameras for less money. The Df has a slight edge with build and sensor, but that's about it. But I digress, because the Df isn't really meant to replace it. It is meant to fill a niche role as a retro everyday camera and I think it is really nice for those who can justify it.

If someone offered me enough for my D600 I would sell it and get a Df. As it stands now, I just can't justify another 2 thousand plus dollar camera when my D600 is so damn capable. I just used it on a week long vacation and took near 1500 pictures and about 2 hours of video.

Now, if they ever get around to announcing a D400 then I might be tempted back into DX. I'll gladly give up a little low light capability to get back to a smaller body.

The Df is a sexy beast, no doubt... but that is just waay out of my econosphere.

The Sony A7 is looking better and better.

I don't understand the point of this camera. Why not just update the D700 to D710 and be done with it?

I think they are going after the hipster market...casuals with money. The kind of person who would buy a Leica.

I think the target for this camera was really older people with older lenses and memory of the film days. I was really looking forward to this camera because I was expecting it to be a smaller, more portable everyday kind of camera. I was so disappointed when I found out it's basically the same size as my D600. Strike 1.

The D4 sensor is disappointing to me too. I know it's supposed to have some amazing high ISO performance, but I personally think all photos above like ISO 800 on any camera are junk to me anyways. I would rather have at least as many MP as my D600 so that I have more room to play with post processing and cropping later. I'm also pretty into landscapes and printing big so another strike for the Df. Strike 2.

While I was expecting the camera to be expensive and I have the money to spare on this, I think they picked too high of a price point. I can get a D800 for the same price! Strike 3.

Also, I just noticed there's no AF assist light on the thing so low light focusing is going to be fun on that thing. I really hope they expand this line though. The same camera with either the D600 or D800 sensor would be cool. A slightly smaller form factor would also be cool. I hope they learn a lot on this camera and come back with a much improved version in years to come.

However, another point I realized is that if their target market is older folks with old lenses, then 16 MP might be all they need in that thing since the older lenses aren't going to be resolving much more than that. Argh...

Oh, and here are your pretty girls, JR. I opened that video to see a couple things about the camera, and I had to rewatch it about 3 times before I was actually able to focus on the camera...

Hmmm. 3 kilobucks is a bit dear. Lets wait for the second generation in five years or so.

Nice effort by Nikon but:

1. Split screen must be the default here, it is just a slap in the face that they use clear and don't provide interchangeability option.

2. No viewfinder, yes, yes, yes. No need for a viewfinder here. I don't remember having one on F4s and my picture taking adventure was fine and very enjoyable. Provide this as an option perhaps for cry babies who "must" have it.

3. Make if more fun. For instance, make the battery look like a roll of film and load it that way. That'd be a very good nostalgic accent as this is supposed to resemble retro feelings, right?

4. ~$1,500 tops. 2.8K is not cutting it. Sorry.

Not sure where you read this. The Df has the same optical viewfinder as the D800. Unless you mean a digital viewfinder.

Beautiful, but could use a little brassing on the hard edges. It makes me sad that I sold all my old school Nikkor lenses.
