very nice camera compared to my D90. Must resist the urge to upgrade ... 99.99% i wont upgrade this round.

the 1.3x crop mode confused me a bit. it's really a 2x crop mode from 35mm. so, you'd be capturing nearly the same image as a 4/3 camera, ceteris paribus.

The D90 is still pretty solid so don't feel the pressure just yet.

Looks like a nice release. I'm a bit jealous of the 51 point AF but my 39 hasn't let me down yet.

I agree.

My brother D90 still is a great camera, and same as my lowly 5D mkii with 1 point AF (8 almost useless focusing points). IMHO, cramming more AF points doesn't necessarily mean it is a better camera.

They do this to reduce the amount of image processing (i.e. less megapixels) so that frame rates can be higher. Sony A57/A77 use this technique to get to 12fps. If you want full size, there is always 1DX or D4. :)

That is part of it, but the other part of it is AF: when in 1.3x crop mode practically the entire frame is covered with autofocus points, which is useful for capturing erratic moving things like, say, erratic-flying birds or fast-weaving football players.

oh i get that. what's confusing is that every other expression of crop is from 35mm. so 1.3x crop would be the same size sensor as in a 1D2. not the same size as a GF3. it should be called 2x crop mode.

I thought it already was on the medium/high models.

I think the VR is relatively new as a standard.
Or maybe it was the 18-105. I forget. But something greater than 18-55 VR was not commonly seen until just recently, as a kit.

Utterly false. My D90 from 2008 had a 18-105mm VR as a kit lens, as just one example.

But no "Instant Masterpiece" button...

Getting pretty sick of hearing this. Yes, skill matters, but so does equipment. Ever try to shoot action sports with a pinhole camera? A point and shoot? Etc.? You can't do it. PERIOD. No matter how skillful you are. So just pipe down with your incessant arrogant "no instant masterpiece button" posts. We heard you the first time.

arrogant are posts: my camera doesn't have a microwave or refrigerator....

Go...around the Net...and you might notice - people, who are into photography, amateurs or pro, would never ask about cameras - they are focused on taking pics with cameras they have...

I'm not sick of people endlessly discuss cameras and no pics to show....let "photo-tech" people have some fun anyway.....

I think the D7100 is less expensive than the D7000 was because the D600 is driving its price point down. I'm really curious to see how the lack of an AA filter works for a dx sensor.

Sorry, Gintaras, I'm going to have to agree with blastingcap here. I've seen you make your "no instant masterpiece button" comment several times now, and it is a bit annoying and doesn't contribute to the conversation. This is a tech forum.... we're going to talk about technology because we're all a bunch of tech geeks. Also, I don't know a single photographer that doesn't drool over any new gear. Not. A. Single. One.

Well this is a camera forum not a photography forum

Maybe you should start a thread where we can post our BEST pics and list the equipment, for the sake of comparison

That kit lens had already been too weak for D7000. Now, they still push it with D7100. More pixels and no AA filter will kill this lens - Avoid!

D7000's buffer was just horrible in terms of flush speed and FPS numbers.

Let's see how this plays this time. D7100 should be a great body with right lens.

The figures I've seen on the 18-105 show that it's still a pretty solid kit lens on a D7000. What lens can beat it for the price?
