Nikon D700 Leaked.

Nikon's budget FF offering was believed to be named as D10. However, it might be called D700 based on the leaked brochure from China.
If that brochure is real(I believe it is), D700 is one hell of a camera. Well, it's cheaper D3 without the vertical grip that probably has lower fps ability, I guess, that's still great. I mean, it's GOOD!
The two thing I hope for is better image processing algorithm than D300. But again, D3 didn't suffer image processing issues like D300, so I guess it'd be as solid as D3. The other one is native ISO 100 but I'm sure it's not supported due to D700 using same sensor as D3. Well, that sucks.

so it is not really a successor to the D300 since it is full frame. The nomencleture may be a bit confusing however, if Nikon chose not to go with D10 instead.

but hey, they kinda already screw up the naming scheme, unlike Canon with 1000D < 450 < 40D < 5D < 1D

Examining those pages very carefully, I've concluded:

1) The body is almost identical to the D300, except the viewfinder hump is larger (to make room for the obviously larger full-frame viewfinder assembly). A built-in flash is included. Button layout looks the same.

2) The same full-frame sensor as the D3, with the same auto-focus system. No mention of processing power; the D3 tends to lock-on and track moving subjects faster than a D300, so we'll see if that holds true with the D700.

3) Since the D700/D300 bodies are nearly identical, they can use the same accessories, including the MB-D10 grip (which I'm guessing will enable a higher speed shooting mode). No mention of shooting speeds with/without the grip.

4) Price? Speculation hints at a $2999 MSRP, which makes sense; the 5D launch MSRP was about the same, and I expect the 5DMk2 to be in that range as well. No idea what kind of kit (with lens) will be offered, if any. The D300 price has already dropped slightly to $1699 MSRP at some dealers; could drop another hundred or two to $1499 once the D700 is out.

One last thing

D700 = D300 body + D3 sensor

D90 = D80-ish body + D300 sensor

D3x = D3 body + 24MP FX

Is Nikon going to put out three new bodies by Photokina?

Well, the name "D700" makes slightly more sense than the name "D10."

maybe they're making their own? nikon's firmware says 24.4 MP. that doesn't quite match up with the known specs for the sony sensor.

The D3 sensor was designed entirely in-house, to my knowledge. So if Nikon's going to make a high-resolution sensor with decent noise performance then reason stands that it would also have to be designed in-house.

The Sony sensor has 24.81 megapixels, which is about right for a 24.4 effective megapixels sensor, because of border masking. But the Sony sensor uses 12-bit Analog-to-Digital converters, when in the D3X's target studio market 14-bit would be preferred.
