Nikon D5100 worth $225?

Someone local has one they claim to have bought new and only used a handful of time has one with 35-55mm lens, bag, ect. Curious is this a good deal? I don't know much about cameras and just want something that shoots faster than a point and shoot. Anything I should look at before buying?

With battery, etc? What lenses? I have the previous model the D5000 and the d5100 has a much better sensor.

they wasn't specific on lenses other than a 35-55mm. Comes with battery and charger aswell. Whats the easiest way to get a shutter count on these?

I think the pic needs a jpeg from the camera and not RAW format converted to jpeg with a program. He will need to change the settings in the camera which is fairly simple.

Let's be clear.
If the camera works and comes with battery, charger and the 18-55 kit lens it's absolutely worth $225 - it's probably worth more like $3-$325.
Assuming it's in good condition.

"just want something that shoots faster than a point and shoot"
It will definitely shoot faster than a point and shoot if you spend an hour and learn how to use it. Otherwise, you'll take great photos once in a while and average photos or worse the rest of the time and blame the camera.

If you get it, come back here and ask questions.

There's no way it isn't the VR version of the lens.
Even if it isn't, the body is still worth more than $225 and you can find the VR variant on CL for $50.

I expect it is the VR version. A buddy had the non VR and I hated it. When I went digital I got the 18-70 instead.

Checking the prices at KEH, a large and respected used gear business...

D5100....... EX+....$299
18-55VR.... EX+....$ 89

I'd go check it out, make sure the zoom travels smoothly. Set $200 on the table, say that's all you can do, then quietly examine the camera. Then update this thread with pics of your new camera.
