Nikon D50 question

I haven't touched my D50 in a loooong time and I saw a thread in OT about astrophotography that kind of piqued my interest a bit again.

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can hook up the D50 to a computer and see what it sees? or even control it through the computer? I'm guessing that you need one that has that Live View feature to do this though?

Also, is there a way to revive a camera battery? I have 2 batteries but one doesn't keep a charge. Is it dead for good?

doesn't seem to be quite what i'm looking for, but better than nothing. it seems that i need a camera with Live View feature to do what I want to do.

You are correct, you need a camera with Live View to view what the camera sees.

Camera Control Pro 2 from Nikon will let you drive the camera, and has many wonderful features like a intervalometer. It stores the images directly to the tethered computer so it bypasses your memory card completely. I'm just not sure if it works with the D50 or if any of the functions are crippled.

After alfa147x mentioned the tethering I did some searching and found the Nikon Camera Control 2. I saw a post where someone said it didn't work with the D50 but I downloaded the trial to test it out anyway. It does indeed work. I was able to change settings and take a picture with the software through my pc.

After some quick searching, it looks like the D5000 is the least expensive (which is still expensive) Nikon camera with Live View. Anyone know if that's true or not?
