here's the deal: I have had the pleasure of using both and they are both great! Can't lose with either. Here's the breakdown: you cannot, and I repeat, cannot beat the 995's macro mode. It is the the best out at the moment (in this price range, and even up to 2000). The problem and I would say the only is its size. Can't really put it in a pocket and it is somewhat cumbersome. The G2 is a little more sleek and it is more of a point and shoot plus it has 4.1 MP (which is only neccessary if you are printing very large pictures). So...if macro is most important and price (cause with the new 5000 coming out the 995 with the 100 dollar rebate is incredibly cheap) but if u want a more sleek and ease of use camera with a higher MP then go for G2. My overall pick would have to be the 995. Price, pictures, and quality of build makes it a winner for me. Try both out and see which holds better for you...but i repeat, you will not be unhappy about a $600 995. Good luck!
