Nice find anyways...

i wasn't in the market for a digital camera until i read this post and the epinions on it. seems like a great deal. forgive me for my stupidity on this issue, but what is the max size compact flash card I could put in there? It says it comes with 8mb... would it be able to read a 32mb?

microcenter is a chain of b&m stores with very high quality service (their prices usually reflect this).

The 800 is a fine starter camera with good optics and decent battery life. I owned one for a year. Loved it.

I'd bet you could put at least a 64 Meg card in there. I wouldnt be surprised if a 128 worked though. I own a Oly C-3000 and only claimed that it was compat up to 64 meg. It took a 128 just fine though. YYMV

I've had my Coolpix 800 for a couple of years now so I'll chime up with my opinions. You can use >8mb compactflash cards on it, I personally have a 64mb card in it with the stock 8mb card as backup. I highly recommend getting a USB compactflash card reader since the 800 only has a built-in serial connection, and it's slooooow moving pictures thru that serial pipleline. Other than being a pain in the butt having to pop out the compactflash card everytime I want to move pictures to my desktop, it's a great camera. Takes good pix and is reliable.

hmm i was gonna jump on this to replace my Fuji A101 but after hearing it has a serial connection and uses compact flash (the fuji one i have uses smart media and a usb interface) i decided to pass. Guess i just don't wanna shell out another extra 50 bucks to replace a good camera with this one. Still a great deal though!

guys,

in the specs on the microcenter site it says:

Cable(s) Included Includes 1 USB, and 1 serial cable

whats the USB cable? I thought the camera only supported serial connections to the pc?

It's an error on microcenter's part. The official specs state it as serial, as does Steve's Digicams, along with everyone else that owns it. I just picked one up.

I've had the 800 of for a couple of years and really like it. I use a compact flash reader, so I've never used the direct connection. It does eat batteries a bit, so get some rechargable ones. I like it so much I ordered one for my Dad.

I had one of these camera's for 2yrs, and had many "Photo of the Day" pictures at Steve's Digicams. I would jump on this deal, but I already replaced my CP800 and bought my wife a Canon S110. Those interested, look at the pics here:

Nikon 800 Pictures

The first 4 galleries are all pictures taken with the Nikon Coolpix 800

I had the coolpix 800 for over two years, so far so good, though i lost the lens cap in universal studio LA.
anyone can suggest me where to buy a cap? BPphotoes NYC B&M oos for a long time.
it can last long time if use nimh battery, the only bad thing is it is only parallel connection, but with that dazzle 6in1,
who care?
128M vikings cf card works great on this camera, dont know if 256M works.

I bought mine without deciding too long. Good thing I did, they're already gone. Did the overnight shipping thing to insure it actually comes. Only an extra 6.00 over ground. Thanks for the post.
