Nikon Coolpix 2500 for $230 at outpost.com

that's cheap. they had it for 250 at the store last week. their online price is even cheaper! thats awesome. great find! i would've gotten this, but i already bought the canon A40. these were the only two i were looking at, too.

This camera lacks an optical viewfinder, which means you have to use the power hungry LCD to take pictures. Battery life will be shorter because of this. With my Canon I rarely if ever use the LCD when I am taking pictures. The battery lasts forever. Occasionally I will review the pictures quickly, but the LCD is a poor place to decide how a picture really looks, so I usually shoot lots of pictures and discard them later once I look at them on the computer screen. Don't skimp on memory cards. Get at minimum a 128MB card which can be had for $50 at Newegg.

Nice price. Didn't notice the viewfinder missing though. Thanks for pointing that out SimMike2. And I agree I use the lcd rarely on my Canon.

Price is good, I got one for my wife, she hates Canon G2 I got, too much functions for her.
I as thinking about the lack of viewfinder, but my wife never use it anyway, so LCD only is ok, but thanks for point it out......
To tell the turth, I don't even like the G2 that much, just a little too big to remember to take when I go out..

Hmmmm, I just read the review at www.dpreview.com and they said that it has excellent battery performance.

It also comes with a battery charger, this is really making me reconsider the Canon A40 I ordered last night...somebody tell me what to do 😀

I really like the Nikon 2500. Its so small that you can take it everywhere you go. Macro is so good. battery life is fine. I don't ever use the viewfinder anymore either.

in sacramento fry's local ad today has it for 199, but its LONG GONE, maybe somebody wanna try pricematching it to circuit city... but like i said... it's LONG GONE... but ymmv? or use ur BVG from amex and send in the ad 🙂

Here is what I think about Conon and Nikon from my limit experience with both of them
I have use Nikon 995, 775 and Canon G2, S30.
All 4 models are very good, but Nikon has better Micro focus then Canon, and Pics seems to be a little sharper then the Canon's
I feel Canon's color a little warmer then Nikon, and I like it.
However, Canon is a little easier (995 vs. G2) to use than the Nikon, better looking, and handle.
Nikon's camera size is a little harder to fit in my pocket (S30 Vs 775).
Overall, You can't go wrong with any one of them...

The reason that I am buying the 2500, is couse it is smaller then my current G2 and easier to use. 99% of my Pics are done in auto mode, and I need an idiotproof camera for my wife and me.
As far as review goes, it only told you the major problems/advantages, all canon and nikon's camera in my view is very good, for the minor issus you have to try it yourself.

Of couse, it just what I think, you may feel totally different when you use it....

When you see the camera review please also pay attention to the shuttle lag. Very important! I played Nikon 2500 a bit in a store. It is a nice looking camera, suitable for lady use. However the body build quality is not up to the Nikon's reputation. Too much cheap plastic feeling especially for the silver parts. I have two digital camera, Olympus C2100 (my favorate) and Canon S110. You may check out some of my photos from my European trips.

agreed. the cam looks awesome online, but go to the store and move the swivel lens urself. it doesnt feel all that great.

i read reviews say that it also has problems with red eyes due to the flash being so close to the lens.

I have the Coolpix 2500. I bought it shortly after it came out. I paid $300 for it and haven't regretted a penny.

I wanted something that was easily pocketable and looked cool. The 2500 fit the bill perfectly. (I also looked at the Canon S330, but I found it too bulky/chunky.) It's extremely easy to use, picture quality is very good, and the 12 different scene modes are extremely useful. Plus, the swivel lens is incredibly handy, especially for self-portraits.

I was also initially concerned about the lack of an optical viewfinder. But the LCD is good enough for me (though it can be a little tough to see in sunlight), and battery life is great. In response to other comments, I find the swivel lens and build quality to be solid. Red-eye, however, can be problematic, but that's so easy to fix in software anyway.

Serious shutterbugs will probably want a camera with more manual controls and a higher pixel count. However, as a casual photograph, it fits my needs perfectly.

(If money weren't an object though, I'd get the G2. But that's in an entirely different class.)

My family has three of them from DELL and we all like them very much! However, one of the charger is out of order, but DELL has never replaced it for us. Nikon claimed that the charger is made in China and the quality is bad. Nikon does carry a made in Japan one for $99.99.
