Ahhhh....the things you think about when you're poppin' cold medicine. ;)

Assuming anyone knows who Nikola Tesla is (I know some of you do), does it ever bother you that he is never mentioned in American History, or in association with any of the other so-called "great" inventors of history? You always hear about Edison, Marconi, Bell, etc.

Also, do you ever think about what the world wouldv'e been like if he wouldv'e been free to develop his ideas and wasn't constantly getting screwed by all the business men?

I read

Tesla by Margaret Cheney...

Nikola Tesla is one of the reasons I am very cynical about what the government/news/media/history books tell me. I question just about everyone and everything because it's about money and power, baby! What is good, better, right, fair... none of these things mean anything. The story of Tesla illustrates this perfectly...

spuffin, do you really know who tesla is, and what he designed?. cds arnt too electrically conductive, and thus wouldnt really be too affected by a coil. I have done reports on Tesla, and studied his research. Some of his designs were very interesting, I've got an exe someplace with plans for a tesla coil. It also contains some interesting snipets about other designs.

Remember:

History is written by the winners about the winners.

He got shafted but in business or anywhere, you have to play the game by the rules in place even if you dont agree with them. Change them later.

My friend that got me interested in Tesla had a Tesla coil that he built. It stood nearly 6ft tall. Could arc well over a foot. It could illuminate a flourescent bulb at better than 6 feet away. All amplified from a 6000v, 30ma neon sign transformer.

Damn! that sucker would give you a rush when he cranked it up! :D

That book was excellent. I love reading about Tesla. I would love to see the stuff the government stole from Tesla. If anybody has any good links or other books about Telsa please pot them. I've read some crazy stuff written about Tesla, like he was from Venus:)

I saw an awesome show about him on PBS about a month ago. He should be given a lot more credit than he is since so many are famous because of him. Marconi is a perfect example.

Marconi is an Italian guy who is most often credited with inventing the radio, even though he used methods pioneered and patented by Nikola Tesla years earlier.

Tesla had a hair rock band in the 80s. His most famous album was "Great Radio Conspiracy."

As for Marconni, I don't think he had a band...

:)

You knew you'd get one of these responses! ;)

The Nikster is a cult favorite. Just a shame that it's taken this long before his name became more well renowned.

Lightning and the derivatives thereof is COOOOOL. Which makes Tesla the Big Daddy of COOOOOL.

One of history's great lost figures. He will one day get the credit he deserves. Starting to already.

Isla, which book? Tesla, Master of Lightning, or Tesla, Man out of Time?

I'd like to read that. BTW, I think it's hella cool that a Latina/Mediterrano/Jew(?) reads books on Tesla. You're one impressive lady!:D

Batti, you are too kind! I just think of myself as being a bit odd. Not much in common with the Tupperware crowd, I'm afraid.... I like them, but they think I'm a little whacky. :D

I read Man Out of Time... I didn't realize there was another! I will have to go out and look for it now.

Actually, I became interested in Nikola Tesla because of the band Tesla. I was in high school and I was intrigued by the name of the band and started to research him... So it is true that music can be a big influence on youth.

:)

edit: Thorn, thanks! Those look great... I've got lots of reading to do... :)
