Will Folks, a well known South Carolina political blogger, confessed to have "an inappropriate physical relationship" with gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley (R) several years ago.

Charleston City Paper: "Haley, a Statehouse representative, recently climbed into the lead in the GOP primary. Folks makes clear that this alleged relationship was prior to his own marriage, but he seems to suggest that it was an indiscretion on the part of Haley, who has been married for 14 years and has two children."

Haley was recently endorsed by Sarah Palin as the "pro-family, pro-life" candidate.

Will Folks, the blogger who claims he had an affair with South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley, has published what he says are text messages between him, Haley's campaign manager, an Associated Press reporter, and a supporter of Haley's opponent that prove that people were threatening to go public with the affair allegation. Then Folks dared Haley to sue him for libel.

Folks is a conservative blogger who, once upon a time, worked for South Carolina Governor and Appalachian Trail hiker Mark Sanford. He claims to have had an "inappropriate physical relationship" with Haley, the Sarah Palin-endorsed front-runner in the gubernatorial race.

Folks is a gross, sexist creep, yes. He seems, in many respects, like a stalker. But these are the facts:

* Folks has known Haley for a while and worked for her at one point.
* Folks has supported Haley's political aspirations for years.
* Folks has records of communications with Haley's staff and with someone apparently connected to Haley's opponent, Gresham Barrett. (Haley's campaign manager confirmed the authenticity of the texts.)
* Again, unless he's just making it up, he has texts from an Associated Press reporter investigating the rumor of an affair between him and Haley.

In the texts, South Carolina Republican political strategist Wes Donehue says Folks "bragged about" the affair with Haley and Haley "told BJ," which suggests Donehue's the source behind the Columbia Free Times story on the rumor.

----

I wouldn't be surprised if this blew up in the next few days. After the Sanford scandal, SC politician morals are looking pretty suspect. Not sure I believe the blogger, though. We'll have to wait and see.

It appears we've gotten to the point where good honest people are no longer willing (or able?) to run for these types of public office..... Affairs are pretty much expected now it seems.

The rumor of the affair has been going around the state house for years and it has been a big joke because Folks is supposed to be a real a**hole. He has been a Haley supporter on his blog from the start. The Barrett camp denies they did any pressure. The best guess is that McMaster (another candidate) has offered Folks a "job", if he gets elected, if Folks will toss Haley under the bus and say Barrett made him do it.

Didn't some magazine or radio station just offer a cash prize for anyone with proof of a sexual relationship with a senator? He may be going for that.

She's damn good looking.

We don't know the aspects of her personal life and shouldn't care. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't care less about politicians having affairs. I'm not on some moral high-horse. I've known great leaders and thinkers that were terrible husbands/fathers or mothers/wives.

I think that this need to have a perfect family makes it worse and provokes this kind of behavior in the first place. If we were more accepting of flaws, we might see a little more honesty in our politicians. How many more closet homosexuals and affairs do we need to see at this point? It's like reading tabloids.

Never heard of her; don't live in SC, don't care.

The only thing that could make this is interesting to me is as this unfolds we see a difference in the way voters treat a promiscuous woman politician vs a male one.

I can imagine some holding it against a male more. Perhaps because they believe the female the fairer sex and the male was 'hurting' her while she supported him in his career, took care of the children and all the while sacrificing her own career (as was the case with Sanford's wife). As a male I also understand the sentiment that if some guy could lie like that to his wife and screw her over, he'd do it to me (taxpayer/voter) in a heartbeat.

Somehow I'm not sure this same sentiment exists if it were a woman politician, as in this case.

What would the reaction be? That she's a ho? Does that damage electoral chances? IDK. I already think most politicians are ho's of a sort. A worse sort really.

the guy's a pussy and probably retalliating because she didn't hire him for her campaign...

and the problem with this stuff is that we need our politicians to be intelligent and driven enough to not be stupid enough to ruin their careers doing shit like this... and especially not with some refugee from his grandma's basement blogger putz...

This is all this guy has? Half of them are pointless drivel talking about an affair rumor. A good campaign manager can say this is nothing more than them trying to chase down who is making up lies.

I mean his supposed "picture" was hardly damning proof. It is your standard photo politicians have with staffers or supporters.

I was thinking the same thing. Change the title please, I was expecting some girl on girl.

I'm usually drunk, so she looks hot to me about 70% of the time! I suppose I can spend a few hours at work most days.

How is she a gonner? She has not pulled out and right now, last poll, still leads.
