Nike Soccer Commercial and Illegal 3-on-3 Football Matches

If you've been watching the world cup, you've seen this ad repeatedly...Two questions -

1. Is FIFA such an iron-fisted soccer governing body that if someone wanted to hold a 3-on-3 first goal wins tournament, they would have to do it on a cargo ship in international waters?

2. What's the song from the ad. I can't get it out of my head. 🙂

FIFA is simply the "governing" association/body that has nurtured soccer. The reason they don't support 3v3 tourneys or other "gusmacker" like things is because those aren't full-blown soccer games. I know any number of towns that would/have/do hold their own 3v3 tourneys, often put on by the same people supporting the Rec leagues. Most of the times you'll get fifa refs because A) it's more/easy money for the existing refs and B) Because you essentially aren't considered a "ref" unless you've gone through fifa.

This is just a Nike commericial. Don't take anything more from it than that.

That said, my roommate who is from England, said they have done a 3v3 first-goal-wins tourny over there between non-professional footballers (read: civilians like you and me). I doubt it was in a cage, probably more like a ice-hockey style field.

The song is an Elvis Presley remix called "A Little Less Conversation" see here for details.

EDIT: typos

I prefer the Adidas "Footballitis" commercials myself.

They're pretty funny the first **500** times you watch them. 😕

They are even better now that France is out. Poor Zidane, the last time he gets to hold the World Cup. 😀

Yeah, I know....I'm just making fun of the ad's premise.

And yes, that is an awesome site! Has anyone seen the rematch on TV? I hadn't seen it until I downloaded it.

Question - The end is the Italians beating the Brazilians, right?

No, the teams are comprised of the 24 top players, not by country..

The winning team has Ronaldo and Figo on it though.. Ronaldo plays for Brazil, Figo plays for Portugal or some place.

Was Zidane on any of the teams? I thought he was considered the top player in the world?

Which one? The rematch or the original?

Anyway, its not country teams. Not even the Italians. Its just players that Nike sponsors playing together.

One team is Figo (Portugal), Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo (both Brazil). The other team is Henry (France), Totti (Italy) and Nakata (Japan).

Club wise its Figo and R. Carlos on Real Madrid. Ronaldo on Inter Milan. Henry is Arsenal. Totti is on AS Roma. Nakata on Kashima.

All this can be found at a website near you.

Zidane is sponsered by Adidas. He wouldn't be in a Nike commericial.

And I think Figo was the most recent FIFA World Player of the Year.
