Nike creates contacts that replace sunglasses.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?id=2134694

That's because the shoe and apparel giant's new contact lenses, called MaxSight, hit optometrist offices nationwide on Monday. The lenses are meant to replace sunglasses. They are designed to filter out ultraviolet light and are said to make the ball and its surroundings appear crisper through the company's patented technology.
Amber lenses are said to be best for fast-moving ball sports, such as baseball and tennis, while gray-green are recommended for athletes who normally wear sunglasses to reduce glare and to focus more on the landscape, such as golfers and runners.
Pretty nifty I think. I'm not sure of distinct advantages of contacts over a regular pair of sunglasses, but I know I would've never thought of something like this.

it's cool but what im waiting for is night vision increasing contacts eta soon from nike. Hope it dosent cost an arm and a leg though(knowing nike, it probably will)

/imagines night vision goggles stuck on your eyeball.

man, those look & sound amazing. this could & should be huge for the eyewear / vision industry as a whole. today i dropped $275 (covered by vision benefits thankfully) on new glasses with transition lenses. it is my first pair of transitions. can't wait to see how well they work.

..there'll still be people who can't wear contacts; so sunglasses are still going to stay. 🙂

And those few of us who have good vision to start with :Q

I assume they're still prescription?

From what i read, nope. I heard about these a couple weeks ago. Apparently some players have been wearing them this season in baseball, namely Brian Roberts in Baltimore.

I'm still holding out for contacts that give me red irises, catlike pupils, or chrome irises.
Don't "they" already make stuff like that? I know I've seen cat-pupil contacts before.
