Nihilism

Who here knows about Nihilism (sp?)?

There was some discussion relating to that in my class today (only have two classes on wednesday and my second class was cancelled), and it was quite interesting, although some people had a hard time grasping it (I don't know why).

What are your thoughts on Nihilism?

Donny: Are these the Nazis, Walter?
Walter Sobchak: No, Donny, these men are nihilists. There's nothing to be afraid of.

Nihilists! F*ck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

Nihilists are ideal candidates for suicide.

I'm more for Tribadism, it's very similar except it's spelled and pronounced differently. And it means something different.

Hah.

Well, completely pure nihilism is impossible, since nihilists claim to believe in nothing, no values, etc. If you were truly like that you'd have no reason to live, no reason to get up in the morning, etc. Hence the probability of high suicide rates for self-proclaimed nihilists. I think it's quite silly actually. Why not forget about what you call yourself, live life, and just be laid back about whatever? Seems far more appropriate.

By the way, where I'm from (Québec, Canada), we have the highest suicide rate. Scary huh?

nihilism is an interesting philosophy from a logical standpoint as it is the only complete philosophy. All other philosophies lead to contradictions. It is kinda like the empty set. A solution to most problems but just a trivial one.
