I'm changing my phone number from an out of state number to a number local to me. So I call up and the first thing I'm told is that he doesnt know if they can give me the plan (650/3000/$35) after switching my number. Apparently switching phone numbers also entails changing plans (why?) and since my plan was a "custom" one made up by the retention department, I'm told that they cant guarantee that I'll get it. After bitching he called retention and offered me 750/unlimited/$40. However, he also said that although he would write a note in the computer that my contract should not be extended (resigned sept. 2002), that the computer would show that it HAD been extended to feb. 2004. I asked if I would get written proof of this and was told no.

The problem:

I signed a contract for set price, contract length, and plan. They want to change all three. I certainly wont agree to anything not in writing, because sprints CS is atrocious and it doesnt matter if the person you spoke to promised you the moon, you wont get it if things get ugly down the line. I would think I have a right to have the same plan, price, and length. Their T+C don't say that switching phone numbers constitutes a service plan change, so it seems like they are not living up to their end of the deal.

What are my options? :| I've talked to two regular CSR and been told the same thing, I asked for a manager and was told none was available.

I did a number change before. They did have to cancel one contract and start a new one. No contract cancellation fee though.

Not sure what else to tell you. Try posting on sprintusers.com. There are a few SprintPCS reps that hang out there.

Has anyone, ever, gotten the terms of their cell contract in writing? I don't think so. But the answer seems simple enough - switch to a different provider. Sometimes we demand things of a business that they are just not able or willing to do, and continuing to pursue it is likely to make you crazy.

They might figure that since you want something (change your number), they can get out of the deal they had by allowing you to do that.

I cant just change providers...as noted I am locked in for another 8 months, and if I breech I face heavy penalties and fees. Plus, this is my only phone right now.

Sprint customer service reps, [That description used loosely for the purpose of this discussion]. are notorius for promising something that cannot be verified and if you do not close the 'deal' before you leave the conservation, you are bound to get screwed!

Sorry I'm no help, but Sprint is the absolute pits when it comes to honesty.....

I'm wondering why you want to change your number. The same number of digits must be dialed and I see no advantage to the change.

As noted, my number is long-distance in my area now (I moved) and it is very inconvienent for people trying to call me to have to dial long distance if they dont have it for free through their cell phone or what not...i want a number local to my area that isnt long distance and only 7 digits.

I am into the battle as well. Sprint PCS suck , retention no longer assists customer as they use to. The only two options submit complaint to FCC or call corporate office number ask switch board to conntect you to office of Tom Murphy, when you get his secretary tell him CS is not helping and only option is to contact FCC, they will switch you to executive customer service manager
