I just posted another thread, and saw yours, so had mine locked out.... I live in Newport (about 20 minutes away), and have worked there many times (doing sound), and my old band played there a couple of times. It looks like quite a few people died, and a LOT of people were burned badly. CNN is simulcasting our local news right now. I know a guy (a guy who is stuck in the 80's) who were at that show, and said it was the worst thing he ever saw. Unbelievable....

FOX News reported that the band involved was Great White (also in the CNN article), and mentioned that one member of the band was still missing. My condolences and best wishes to everyone involved.

One more thing I'll add...
Last time I was there the walls and ceiling (over the stage) were completely covered and in Soundproofing (4x8 sheets of foam tile), they also had a riser that was enclosed for the Drums, which was completely covered in it too, so I can just imagine how fast that stuff went up.
I don't know if anyone else has ever worked with that stuff before, but it's nasty. It smells like Super Glue, and crumbles apart easily.
It was a club that had a lot of 80's bands on the weekends, but catered to locals and local bands during the week.
My condolences to everyone.

That pic in the first link showing the flames coming out of the building....scary. 🙁

This is on every major channel right now. There is film footage from inside that shows the whole incident happen including a stampede out and people going crazy. Ironically, the crew was there to get reactions from club goers about the Chicago incident and if they felt they were safe.

OMG that video from inside the club is horrible. The whole stage area was engulfed in like 30 seconds. I've never seen anything like that before. I've been to two or three club shows where equipment has caught fire on stage, but the whole building didn't go up after it. That scares me so much seeing it. Like mattyrug said there was soundproofing foam all around the stage and it just went up instantly. How in the world can they use that stuff in a club like that? :Q Granted the pyro is what started the fire, but anything could've started a little fire that. That video just gives me the chills...

Horrible. 🙁

Looks like they lost their Guitar player in addition to all those people that were rushing the door 🙁

I was Fireman for 8 years, it pains me to see these Nightclub fires when the loss of life is so unneccessary if the people running these places had just the slightest bit of common sense. They are ruining it for all. Both owners of theses 2 Nightclubs should get jail time as a wake up call to anyone that is running a Nightclub or intends to in the future.

Personnel
Jack Russell vocals
Michael Lardie guitars, keyboards, vocals
Mark Kendall guitar, vocals
Tony Montana bass
Audie Desbrow drums

Um, why don't I hear anyone blaming this moronic band for setting off fireworks in the club? :disgust:

Lead singer said club manager approved the pyrotechnics before the concert, but the place did not have a license for "fireworks" according to the local fire marshall. An employee of the club said they had done pyrotechnics in the past with proper supervision, but said he was unaware that pyrotechnics were going to be used last night.

That type of sound absorbing material is used quite often, because it's cheap, and readily available. A 4x8 Sheet of 4 inch thick can be had for $8 a sheet. We (the sound comany I work for) use the stuff quite often, and they make a flame retardant version of it too (about 4x the price), but it will still go up in a matter of seconds. You watch, there's gonna be a lot of review of the laws regarding this stuff. I know in Newport, where I live, the fire codes are very strict on using this stuff.
Edit- 39 now killed. I know another person who was there, and she also made it out ok.
