Night jogging = Feels SO good~!

After a stressful day, it feels good to go for a jog to seal the night.

I usually go around 7-9pm, two to three times a week. I think jogging at night is better because with everything dark, the ambience becomes very serene. A nice solitary jog gets your mind off things and also spending some time alone is really refreshing at best.

I only started about 3 weeks ago and I've never jogged since HS (5 yrs ago). It is quite addictive to see actual improvements your body makes on each run. At first I almost died running a 1.75 mile block I set up. Today I did that lap twice for the first time.

Aside from obvious health benefits, I really do it for my mental/emotional health. When you feel sh|tty or just feel down, a nice run can really change things. The best part is when Runner's High kicks in and your body just gets into a trance-like stage to go on and on. That endorphin-produced euphoria coupled with some solitary thinking truly helps me reflect on my day, my short/long term goals and my life overall.

I suggest you try it... 🙂

Hmm, I never get this. Maybe I should run more often.

I work out too but jogging is much better at 'spending time with yourself in a placid environment'

A friend of mine convinced me that night-running is where it's at. Before I ran with her, I didn't believe her. But running through a deserted park at 7:00 p.m. in the middle of a Michigan winter with snow falling around you is a beautiful thing.

NOTHING compares to a run in the morning. For me at least who have a TERRIBLE time wakeing up in the morning. I am energized for the day if I run/work out in the morning... Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

You shouldn't jog at night... you never know when you'll feel like hopping on a bus and traveling cross country without telling anyone... or something like that...

I can never get myself to run in the morning. If I ran in the morning, I'll probably get all sleepy throughout the day.

Jogging in the afternoon is pretty good on a relaxing weekend. But night jogging at weekdays nights are where it's at.

Well, I am still in school so running in the morning makes me... as Pink Floyd would put it "Comfortably Numb." I am awake and alert, and I am just so relaxed through the day. Which would undoubtly get me fired in a high stress job... I see where your coming from 😛

i need to jog more, just to lazy to do it. but hopefully this summers work ethic will get me to lose weight and tone up more

excavation job over the summer.

I just started running again after smoking for years. I'm embarressed to say that I still struggle on trying to push a mile, but I feel good that I'm actively getting in shape.

But I'll tell you, for all the health benefits, all that good rigorous excercise is supposed to do for you, NOTHING can compare to waking up and feeling like you actually slept. To me, that's one thing that keeps me going. No more waking up still tired!!! And actually waking up BEFORE the alarm.

I Love It.

Here's to not smoking, and sticking with the running!

At least you don't need achieve Runner's High to get into trance... 😉

I ran solid for 4 months last year... not sure why I stopped but I feel inspired to start again. I used to jog for about 45min after work, but not I don't feel up for anything nowadays. I start work super early so doing a morning jog is out. I think I'll try out a 7-9pm jog and see what it's like.

Also, I totally know what you mean about the runners high. I got it more when I first started out. I got the sense of floating and that my eyes were like video cameras and I wasn't really running at all. I bike a lot, but I've never gotten the same sensation.

you know whats funny......

I was JUST going to post a topic about how I had a very stressful day and ask for advice on how to relieve my stress.
seems like ive found my answer already. 🙂

awesome im going out for a bit of a jog, bbl!

Heh.

The trance music definitely does help with the running.

I'll be happy when I can do two miles again without struggling. Damn, I used to be able to run in High School.

I wish I could do that right now... Running is so damn therapeutic for me. I would like nothing more than to go for a nice 20-miler right now... Damn stress fracture.

Stretch and drink a glass of water before you go. 🙂 (more would cause cramps) You'll really feel RH on your second run and on. Just take it easy today.

This sounds like signs you are going to faint 😛 . Some times I don't feel my legs and run fast until I feel them again, but rarely.

Back when I played college Volleyball, I would go run the stairs on our 9 story parking deck at 1 am about 20 times, have a quick chat with the nightly security guard, slam in a 3 hour nap, and be at practice fresh at 5:30 in the morning.

you know, i used to run a lot. Cross country team, <6 minute miles. Lately (since college) i havent been running very regularly at all. here and there. i havent ran in the last 2 weeks or so, and i was just sitting here RIGHT now thinking "why am i in such a sh!tty mood?" and the answer, maybe, is that i havent exerted any physical energy in a while.

anyone have this? physical exertion lightens their mood?

Cawchy87, I wasn't near fainting. I totally know that numb leg sensation though. I wish I knew the distance that I ran... it wasn't far by a a regular runners standard but my personal best was 45min without rest.

OOBradm, I know I feel grumpy when I haven't had any decent exercise or food. That's why I love commuting to work on bike. It makes me more productive at the office, and I don't feel as drained when I get home.
