My g/f has the exact same symptoms....it started 5 hours ago as well.

Don't go to a doctor unless there is blood. If you have tea-tree oil, gargle with that or mix with water and spray in your throat. Otherwise gargle with warm salt water.

Drink half it and gurgle the other half.

Wtf? Strep doesn't cause blood, and you need a doctor to get an antibiotic. Unless you don't need your heart valves.

I had the same thing this winter and all that did any thing was coffee I hate it but the heat did some thing that made the pain go away for a while.. at least to get some sleep..

Strep isn't common in adults. It's also usually accompanied by other symptoms (fever, blablabla). And it's even less common for it to develop into rheumatic fever (which I assume is what you are referring to with the heart valve comment).

Well then the first advice should be to take his temperature? I mean, granted he's posting here, which implies it's not significant, but according to the OP it hurts so much he can "barely swallow".

Agreed. Most likely he'll be fine by tomorrow after some salt-water gargling though.
