I just got a call to participate in the Nielsen ratings thing. I guess they send a diary thing to fill out or something.

Just curious if anyone else has done this.

My friends did it last year at college. They got paid about $150 / month. They a special cable box and each person had their own 'viewing' profile. They were required to switch the profile when they turned the TV on or changed watchers. It was a sweet deal.

Basically, they spent lots of time trying to fuck with it by leaving it on the guy's profiles watching Home and Garden network all day.

So are Nielson box people the source of all "TV ratings"? Or does every cable box keep track of what you watch and when?

Only Nielson families affect the Nielson ratings.

nielson ratings are crap. you'd think with current technology they'd have a better system for it by now.

We did the Neilson thing I was 10 I think...

Basically my brother and I took an hour and filled it out with our favorite shows. Then at the end of the week we mailed it back.

my parents are doing something where they wear these beeper looking things and it transmits what they are watching/listening to to the companies that monitor them. They get paid like 5 or 10 dollars a week as long as they get over 40 points or something a day.

I was asked to do it for a week, about 5 years ago. Like others have mentioned, they give you a little bok, and you fill in the shows you watched on a daily grid. Then you send the book back to them. I can't remember how much money they gave me, if any.

Wow, $30? I did a radio one through arbitron and got only $7. Of course, that was about 3 minutes of work for that $7 since I heard radio only twice in the week.
