From the very end of a longish NY Times article about Nick Berg.

"Last week, Mr. Strickland and a friend cleaned out Mr. Berg's one-bedroom apartment in West Chester, Pa. On the wall was a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon that struck Mr. Strickland as typically Nick.

In it, Calvin and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes, are surveying a field of virgin snow. "It's like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on!" Hobbes says. "It's a magical world, Hobbes ol' buddy," Calvin replies. "Let's go exploring."

While a red rose on an internet forum is noble, I prefer to remember Nick Berg by supporting the effort to exterminate the people in Iraq who support terrorists and the beheading of Americans trying to help them rebuild their country.

Fact is, the white sheet of paper to most islamic terrorists is a canvas only THEY get to draw on, and the rest of the world has to watch them and fear what they are putting on it. Its a DANGEROUS world out there, and those who 'explore' might just get their heads chopped off for doing it.

I prefer to eliminate the cause of terrorism worldwide, not just in one specific part of the world where Al Qaeda never had a presence before.

Back on topic:

That was always one of my favorite comics...esp. that final one of Calvin and Hobbes. Berg was just a guy, like any of us.

What do you think should be done with people who kill innocent civilians and rape innocent prisoners? Extermination? Or something less consistent?

Ummm...so according to your thoery and MANY others likeminded people like yourself you agree that Saddam was a bad guy, but there is NO POSSIBLE way that he, as controlling of his people as he was would have let any element of AQ into his country.

Yes he tortured people
yes he gassed a segment of his population
yes he milked the oil for food program for his own benifit
yes he refused to comply with they UN for 12 years
yes he paid familes of homicide bombers

BUT to have AQ in HIS country...well THAT is crossing the line....they never were there, your right that is so far beneath Saddam it is unimaginable.

Yes, nice point. And this is exactly why I don't let politics dictate my friends. Just like Hannity I have friends of all persuasions and views. Usually I just stand by dumbfounded that they can be that stupid, but, I love them anyway.

Nick Berg was a kid, really. A very young man. Way too young to die for sure. I'm sure his father thinks he was changing his diapers just yesterday. God, as a parent I can't even go there....

Although that statement is said as fact, it very well may not be true. Inspectors who went to the village following the gassing reported that it was most likely an Iranian attack, as Iraq was not believed to have that type of gas at the time.
yes he milked the oil for food program for his own benifit
So did Haliburton
yes he refused to comply with they UN for 12 years

That's another one of those things that was reported as true, but was never actually linked to anything factual.

Besides the fact that he was fundemantally opposed to everything they stood for, and they hated him for it?

You call your friends stupid... remind me not to be YOUR friend.

Here's how I approach my left leaning friends: I think they are wrong in their beliefs, but they are otherwise intelligent people who just happen to look at things in a different way. I disagree with that way, but I don't insult their intelligence.. But, I guess thats the difference between those who hate based on ideology, and those who don't.

It is certainly not impossible, but that is not how you deal with these things, prove it or loose it, it has not been proved and even the US admin said that it isn't so, if those who have the most to benefit from it says it is not so, i am inclined to believe them.

Yeah. I see my daughter now and she's at the age when I first met my ex-wife. A parent knows, age-wise, their child has grown up but yet we still see them as babies, innocent to the vagaries of the world.

I'm talking about anyone that rapes prisoners or kills innocent civilians, which includes both "terrorists" and US soldiers.

Don't spew this garb everywhere. The person who has been said to be responsible for Nick Berg's death has/had a direct link with Al Queda. They were also there prior to the war where they had killed over 700 people before America had even made an attempt to liberate Iraq.

Stop saying Al Queda was not in Iraq. They are, they were, and they will be for a long time to come if we just decide to back out.

Who quit caring about Nick Berg?

I don't think that's true at all. From my vantage point both sides of the political spectrum see his death as awful and supporting their own views. Plenty of people have good reasons to keep his name front and center, which is as it should be as far as I'm concerned. He and Danny Pearl will not be forgotten.
