niche wheels on camry?

What year/make/model Camry, and what size wheels are you thinking of getting? If you get up to 16" or 17" wheels with decent-profile tires, then ride and acceleration will not be hurt much. However, if you're pimpin out the Camry with 20"s or w/e (I don't know why you would do that to a Camry of all cars though), then acceleration can be seriously hurt by the big, heavy wheels and lack of torque in the 4 cylinder model. Braking will be worse due to the increased force necessary to stop a car with larger diameter wheels. Also, if you go for big wheels with low profile tires, potholes will become a serious problem, and your car will feel less responsive due to the higher unsprung weight. Suspension parts like struts will wear out faster due to having less sidewall to soak up bumps and potholes. Your speedometer/odometer readings will also be off unless you match the new wheels/tires to have the same diameter as your old wheel/tire combination.

Now, if you're getting some lightweight wheels like Volk TE37s or the like, and you match the diameter to be the same as the stock wheel/tire combo, then there won't be any performance loss. However...it's a Camry, so I'm not sure why you would do that.

Just some things to think about before you buy.
 
If you're going to put wheels on a Camry you should go with something simpler so that you don't end up looking like you're trying to be a pimp. Most big chrome wheels will have that affect. Look into some different finishes for a sedan like that. Hypercoated, or machined would probably look better than straight chrome. Even some good silver paint on them can look good if its done right.

Maybe something like one of these:

Maybe the ASA AR2 in machined finish, or the ASA EM9 in bright satin silver.

They're also not too heavy (23.4 lbs.) and not too expensive ($169).
 
Too many people today will slap on anything big and chrome onto their car with little thought on how they will look once mounted. Rarely do I see people do it right.
