Question rephrased: If you live in Illinois and Michigan, where do you go (may not necessarily be in these two states)? how's was it?

do you have season pass? how early do you buy them?

In Michigan, the best is arguably Nubs Nob or Boyne Mountain in the Lower Peninsula. The UP has some good ones too if you're into driving. We always go to Nubs over the Xmas holidays.

Chestnut Mountain in NW Illinois. The mountain goes down to the Mississippi, plenty of slope!

That's what I wondered. What the heck is the vertical at a ski resort out there?

ROFL! I ski out west in the high stuff, so I was wondering that too:D
Nub's nob, vertical = '427 OMG!
Crystal Mountain, Washington vertical = '3100 ( nearest ski area to me)
They have tons of snow cannons on every trail, from the looks of it.

I also like Nubs Knob...smaller mountain, but the average run is of a nicer quality and there are far less people than at Boyne.

I guess I may have to rephrase my question.

"If you live in Illinois and Michigan, then were do you go to 'nicer' ski resorts?"

Heh, all the ice of the east coast and none of the height. Yeah, it was hard being part of the HS ski team when I lived in Michigan and Wisconsin. I can't wait to move back to Colorado.

I  Loveland and Copper.

I lived in Utah for 2 years just to ski. I could be skiing in less then 45 minutes from my apartment. Was great fun, but I saved no money.
