Comparable to the dead Crutchfield deal for $999 including shipping.

I bought a 32" Westinghouse from J&R about a year ago and was very happy with their service and the set arrived in perfect condition. If I was in the market I would jump on this.

Yeah... this one just replaces the Crutchfield deal... think of it as an extension :)

I actually bought an Olevia 32" and sent it back after a week because I thought it was cheaply built compared to the Westinghouse - I checked the Westy out at Best Buy before ordering it at a better price from J&R. The Olevia had a much grainier picture in all formats and the screen wasn't uniform to where there was a backlight bleed through along the edge. The plastic housing also seemed well, cheaper on the Olevia.

Not that the Olevia is a bad deal for the money, but build quality and PQ doesn't compare to the Westinghouse IMO. There are reasons why the Olevia sets are generally cheaper than the Westinghouse and I've seen them first hand. Price being equal I reccomend the Westinghouse. My only regret is not getting the 37".

I don't understand why anyone would spend $1000+ on a TV and use the built-in tuner. The lack of a tuner was a selling point for me.

Also, the Westinghouse is simply built better than the Olevia (and Sceptre).

I had the 37" Westy before I upgraded to the 42". It is an excellent purchase especially at this price. I paid $1700 for it in January!

Probably to watch HDTV over the air. Or from regular cable (with no set top box) if the TV has a QAM tuner.
In both cases, you will have lower monthly fees.
I expect you would have the choice of bypassing the built-in tuner as well if you wanted to.

How you get your digital transmission does not have an impact on the quality of the signal shown on the screen. The quality of the screen ($1000?) does.

I am learning and am not claiming to have the answer to your question. My post is a hope to get the discussion going in hope of learning about this as I am in the market too.

To watch free over-the-air feeds of regular and HDTV content from their local affiliates. I personally do not currently go this route, but I have before when I also had DirecTV.

I don't know why you wouldn't want a tuner. I don't see why that would be a plus??? I use my built in tuner for OTA HD and Comcast also broadcasts the locals and ESPN in HD over the regular cable. Without a tuner, you have another box to hook up and for most people, it is another remote.

That's a good deal. I'm concerned about the lack of a tuner though. :)

There is always options of using a cheap tuner on for the PC and hooking it up to one of the DVI connection. Just not too long ago ATI HDTV Wonder w/ remote have being as low as 50. This card only accepts HD OTA signals though (at least on when running on Windows). Plus the ability to time-shift using ATI MMC's software is awesome.

The olevia isn't 1080p though is it?

1080p definitely isn't a big deal on a 36" screen.

The higher resolution helps if you're hooking a PC to the monitor and sitting at 6-7 feet or less away. As a TV, the higher resolution doesn't mean much as most people will be sitting further away.
