You know upgrading to an i7-870 from a P4 is a pretty nice upgrade.

This thing is kind of snappy. lol.

Yep. I mean, it's only like 8-10 times as fast as a single core P4.

plz tell me you threw an SSD into that upgrade as well...breathed new life into my (less) aging Q6600 platform.

IDC, an SSD was out of budget this time around. With the advances that are being made I'm willing to wait a while. But it is on the wish list.

I hear you, I thought long and hard for nearly 6 months before I finally ponied up the $400 for a 160G2. If you end up hanging on to your i7-870 for as long as you did your P4 then an SSD upgrade will certainly add some cheap zip to your rig in a couple of years.

Meh.

That's a quantum leap...it must feel like you've gotten superior technology from the future now. Don't worry about an SSD for a while. Unless you're a performance maniac, there's no reason for someone to get an SSD right now.

LOL. congrats. For something similar, I upgraded my uncle and aunts computer running a old celeron 600 (castrated p3 chip) with 256 MB with memory and win 95. Gave them an old skt 939 opteron 165 (dual core) I had laying around. Built them the system and OC'd it to 3Ghz with 2GB of DDR and windows 7. To them it was like night and day. I even tossed in an ati 4850 1GB card along with some games so they could play and try those out.

The rest of my family knows I am a computer guy, but thinks I am weird for having all the constant hardware upgrades but I think I got my uncle at least convinced. Or at least he's now hooked on a few games :)
