Interesting take on that one....

jpg is 172K
gif is 227K

display is the same. Just a guess, but I'd say the jpg is smaller. :)
However... somehow you've gotten it to 50K... hmmmm

Yes, Dan, if you make the gif from the jpg. Try making the gif from the bmp. So ?

Have someone tried to convert those pics .png? If I understand right png is quite effective format.

Silly me... I never knew that one. Thought it converted from jpg nicely.
Thanks for the tip guys. I'll not claim to be too old or too experienced to learn something new. :)

.png is actually quite bulky, although slightly better than .bmp. i personally prefer converting everything to .jpg using ~65% compression. it generally brings down files from 250k to about 70k, which is much more manageable, and the quality is hardly compromised.

I usually convert my screenshots from 2.25MB bitmaps to 464KB 24bit pngs and then convert that to a jpeg with just a little compression on the bar for a final result of ~120-220KB with minimal artifacts. It takes 2 steps but the nice uniform patches on colour without blotches make it worth it. :)

png yelds better quality than jpegs but for me, when I upload a png to Zing, they convert it to a jpeg anyway.
