Yes, they did, at one point. It was to cart the laptop back to the HP mothership.

Timeline:
2007-04-02: Laptop stops working. I call HP and have a box sent.
2007-04-04: Box arrives.
2007-04-05: Laptop shipped back to HP, with power adapter and cord.
2007-04-09: HP receives parcel.
2007-04-16: HP determines that parts have failed. Parts on order.
2007-04-23: Parts still on order. I call and ask what's taking so long. Case manager "will call me back within 3 business days."
2007-04-30: I call and ask where my laptop is, and why case manager hasn't called.
2007-05-02: Case manager calls. "Parts are backordered until 2007-06-15." I ask him what the (deleted) he's smoking, and that my laptop had better be back and fixed within a week.
2007-05-07: Laptop arrives. I open box. I call HP and ask them where the (deleted)-(deleted) my power adapter and cord are. HP says they'll send it out and it will arrive 2007-05-15. More colourful language follows.
2007-05-10: Power adapter and cord arrive. I plug laptop in to test it. I decide to test it out for myself. Find that writing coherent sentences is impossible. Determine cause to be hypersensitive D key. I get bored waiting for dinner and decide to see how many pennies it takes to set it off. Determine that it takes seven. Find weight of penny. Multiply weight by seven. Post thread. *Update* Call HP and demand that a case manager calls me back
tomorrow to discuss me getting a new laptop for free.
