So, I'll prolly go to the coast Friday with a friend. I'm in Cary and realize it will be 2-3 hours drive. Where would you go on the NC coast for scenery, decent restaurants, etc?

For coastal NC...try Willmington. The weather may be crappy this weekend but it is alwayrs 5-10 degrees warmer on the coast than inland because of the coastal waters.

You can rent a place for the weekend through Bryant Real Estate. 'A Summer Place Condos" are pretty affordable and on on the same street as Johnny Mercer Pier. (Private parking is a plus).

You have within walking distance two restaurants, three bars, and the beach. the moon should still be nearly full so moonlight walks, while cold, is still possible without flashlights.

Downtown is about 20 minute drive but be careful with the drinking as cops are not the nicest to people who live outside Wilmington.

Two hours from Cary.

Kitty Hawk is one city. But it is a 3.5 to four hour drive because it is basically an island and there are no highways to it.

I don't think he's looking to get shot. Also, that's technically not on the coast... just on the waterfront of the Delaware.

You live in Cary and don't know where the Outerbanks are?

Wilmington has some good seafood places, but it is kind of out of season. I believe the USS North Carolina is still open for tours.

On the OuterBanks there is Kill Devil Hills, Blackbeard's museum is there. For eating, I recommend Sam & Oamies, and Howard's Pub

You could drive 3-4 hours west and hang out in the mountains, Biltmore House, Smoky Mountains, Cherokee, Blue Ridge Parkway are nice. Can't really recommend good places to eat there though.

probably the best advice concerning the coast. i live a fair bit north of wilmington and havent been in forever, emerald isle is closer to me but its dead outside of the beach season.
