the full story is HERE

Senator Howard Berman, a weasel dick from California, wants entertainment companies to be allowed to hunt down computers involved in music sharing, and knock them off the net, or render their files useless. AND, we need to seek attorney general approval before suing him, and must prove we suffered more than $250 worth of damage!!! ( he's also taken the LARGEST CONTRIBUTIONS from the music/movie industry).
Guys, it'll keep getting worse and worse if we don't stop this crap.
HERE is congressman Berman's homepage- email him and tell him he's a 'nad, then send a letter to Congress saying you think this bill sucks, and that we are NOT living in the dark ages, so we should NOT be subjected to those type of rulings.

Well, I guess living in a country where our government does absolutely nothing (except be corrupt and give more money to the Natives and the French) isn't always so bad. This is very, very true, so don't call me a racist pig.

So... If I'm a copyright holder, and I suspect the RIAA/MPAA has illegally obtained my material, I can DDOS them?

Ha, they better be careful or they'll find themselves subject to much worse DOS and hacking than they could hope to deliver. It would be fitting for Senator Berman to suffer a nice healthy DOS attack himself.

So... what's the punishment that fits the crime here? I don't suppose asking you will stop you from doing it again.

what they don't realize is that as long as DVDs are playable on computers, there will always be a way to rip them. Count on the europeans to develop all the new ripping tools, no matter what kind of locks are put in place.

this has gotta be like discussing abortion- volatile opinions on both sides, with no one agreeing ever.
My musical opinions have been posted here several times before I.E. I believe that the days of a great album all the way through are long gone; we have music companies signing minimal talent groups, with 1 tune with a good hook, and the rest of the album with no substance. THIS is why I believe the majority of people trade MP3's, 18 bucks for a cd with 1 good song is TOO MUCH MONEY.
When cd's were first being released, the high price was being touted as a result of manufacturing costs. We were told the CONSUMER cost would come way down, when the failure rate in manufacturing also went down. What happened? Thier cost went down, when OUR cost went up! A typical example of the greed of the music industries.
They have been blaming their declining sales on music piracy, when in fact a good portion of their product sucks, and their prices STILL keep going up. (The most basic law- supply and demand).
I like to be able to sample an artists' music before I plunk down my cash- but this is what they want to deny us!!

This is formulated by major record companies most of the time, where there are 1 to 3 songs that are catchy and pushed by commercial radio, and the rest of the CD is junk. (close to 20 dollars worth no doubt) One of the reasons they fear file sharing so much is that people will realize this, only want the 1-3 songs, and not pay such an absurd price for the entire record.

I run an absolutely gigantic FTP server (around 300GB) and thru this I hear all kinds of new music everyday, and what I've come to realize is that most of the records that I like best are indie label bands whose CD's cost under $10 to begin with, and that is affordable for me. I have no problem buying a Modest Mouse record, because I've listened to them all and like pretty much every song on there. This can be said for very few major label records. (the only ones that come to mind are Radiohead's OK Computer, Pearl Jam's Ten, and Tool's Aenima)

You know... what happens in the following:

Hacker gets pissed at a person (say a person in power to make it more intresting, a company, millitary/government computer)
Hacker hacks into said person's computer and set its up to share tons of "copyrighted files"
"Industry" locates said share and commences a DOS attack on said computer.
Said computer is now "off" the internet and said person or company (or gov/mil) is unable to do their required job.

Opps, the "Industry" just got itself screwed over. And I can see this happing alot if enough people get mad.
