The news about moving to led screens is actually a few months old. Jobs just officially announced it the other day.

It'll be slow starting though until the market pushes towards adapting that as a better alternative. Apple's moving int he right direction, just has to have the suppliers follow up.

since apple is a force in this case, i hope it will bring LED backlit LCD panels into the mainstream. they did start using LCD's quite early. this is excellent news. although that samsung panel in the link ribbon13 posted it so sexy!

Because the production capacity of LCD panel makers had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS and it also DID NOT AFFECT OTHER MANUFACTURERS IN ANY WAY

lc

Apple 23"/30" Cinema Display = CDN$1,049.00/$2,099.00
Dell 2407FPW/3007FPW = CDN$699.00/$1,599.00

Well, all LCDs are moving to LED eventually, maybe apple is a little earlier than others but that is all.

I don't think LED backlights are the same as HDR displays, they just use LED's instead of lamps, there is no dynamic lighting. The brightside displays use an array of LEDs that change dynamically don't they? I'm pretty sure this is different, they're just replacing the traditional backlights with LEDs.

No. Local dimming. NOT standard even LED backlighting. Adaptive backlighting.
