Intel e8500
CPU - 1.9V
RAM - 3.425V
FSB - 487 MHz
Northbridge - 2.75V
Southbridge - 1.85V.

End result fried mobo... and possibly cpu...

Let this be a lesson - when you are new to overclocking, read the manual, then ask questions, then read the manual again!

Everyone has to start sometime, and everyone on the forums would rather you asked about something that was puzzling you, or that you had doubts about before you attempted your overclock, than waiting till later and potentially ruining your kit...

***UPDATE***

Weel I didn't expect this.

The problem turned out to be a loose fitting on the fan over the cpu this caused the cpu to become loose and so pc wouldn't start so after securing it the whole thing ran perfectly -

ZOMG WTFBBQ? It works...?

Definite case of "The Luck o' the Foolish"

And thus our tale has a happy ending :D

Wow, I think my mobo maxes somewhere around 2.7v for the ram. 3.4 is up there and then some!

I was WONDERING where that smell of burning silicon was coming from!

I'm surprised the board allowed those settings.

Bad idea.

I suspected you weren't the culprit. It does give us something to point at and laugh at. Look at STUPID!

I'll take a quick look at it, but at this stage I'm fairly certain that it'll just need a new seal and a smoke recharge and be back up and running in no time....

I'm surprised the board allowed those settings.

Yeah the Noob read an article which stated the maximum values the board would supply for given parameters.

He then thought he would give overclocking a go... and made some delicious copypasta of the values from the article.

Let this be a lesson - a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing!

Ask questions people

yeah once you let out all the magic smoke it's not a good sign... Just remember these words! "Do it at your own risk!"

Best to find someone with the same chip and motherboard and start lower then that guy!

That motherboard is an absolutely piece of shit and Nvidia's 680i chipset is a piece of shit.

The voltages fluctuate wildly on 'auto' setting. My 1.22v processor was running at 1.52v when I first put it in and the setting was on auto.

I RMA'd the motherboard and they sent me a P5N32E-SLI plus which is actually an Nvidia 650i chip overclocked to match the 680i settings. And, it was a dud too.

So, the fried motherboard is a good thing, imo. Go out and buy a Gigabyte with an Intel chipset.
