Senate Republicans tried to make Democrats hold a quick vote on President Obama's jobs-stimulus bill Tuesday, but were blocked by Senate Majority Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who is sponsoring Mr. Obama's bill but who said other matters take priority.

I curse the day I voted for that man. But I thank him for making the point that it doesn't take one Republican to make this administration and congress look bad.

If the merits of a bill are what determines its liklihood of passage then Congress has really been doing a stellar job all along. Has Congress been doing a stellar job? Since when?

Since when has politics not come into play in any bill in Congress? By stellar I mean what bfdd was suggesting, that if a bill is good, it will pass and if it is bad, it won't. That doesn't describe the way our Congress functions for the most part.

Wasn't 1995-2000 when Congress dismantled regulation of the financial services and ditched Glass-Steagall? One of the worst pieces of legislation we've had in the last 50 years IMO.

This exactly. It is silly for Obama to say that the Repubs will not let the bill be voted on. Some in his own party do not even like the bill.

Reid knows what he's doing. Tax increases on the wealthy are inevitable, and highly popular among the electorate, being favored almost 3 to 1. When he has the support from his own party, he'll try to bring it to a vote. Senate Repubs will likely duck, let the Repub HOR kill it, unless McConnell can do a reverse face on the head of a pin. They'll kill any new spending or tax increase bill automatically. Cut, cut, cut! Remember?

Repubs don't care about jobs- they want the economy to remain depressed or get even worse- in their eyes, it's the best way to Beat Obama! provided they don't have to wear it themselves.

Reid is fitting them up for the rat jacket they so richly deserve.
