nice heatsink and fan for cheap slk700with TMD 31.00

Nice price. Great heatsink, but I'd probably want to use another fan on it.

I've seen a few posters complaining about these new YS Tech TMD fans; some vibrate, some are noisy, and some are said to have shorted out!

I have two of them...one on a P4 2.4 running at 3GHz and the other on an Athlon XP 2200+. Quiet as a tranquil autumn's eve... 😉

Really? It's quiet? I had a 40dba fan on a copper HS and that thing was LOUD.

SVC has the SLK7 for $19.99 but it doesnt come with a fan. They have a nice selection of 80mm fans tho.

How would this HSF do with a Barton 2500+? Is it good enough to cool it, or should I go a little better, like SLK800U or 900?

I have an SK7 w/ the same TMD fan on my 2500+... its at 3000+ right now but it's rock stable 1.7v. I can't tell you temp since my abit screws it all up... 😀 ...it says my case temp is 50c... ooooooook...

You may have the quieter 4500 rpm model TMD fan, or a good case, or hearing loss. 🙂 Or perhaps the TMD fans have improved since they were introduced.

The faster fan is said to give 36cfm at 39dbA, which is not a Delta screamer, but still too loud for me.

Nexfan has both the 4500 and 5800 rpm TMD fans at a bargain price, $5. TMD fans $5 at Nexfan I am thinking of adding one of the slower TMD fans to my next order.

Nexfan sells dangerous TMD old version, that is why they are cheap. This thing has wrong RPM signal, it draws too much from the board from the start (it can burn your 3-pin connector) and it can short out the motherboard. I know what I am talking because I lost my Epox to one of these crapy fans. You have to isolate them and not use metal screws to attach to the heatsink else they will kill your board.

Vantec uses new version, thought to be safe. I feel safe without them though I am running two of them on my SK-7 on Abit motherboards. It seems Abit makes boards more stable than Epox.
Shortly these fans are not worth risk.

You can read about trouble with these fans on overclockers.com, they branded them problem product:
Here.

I would not buy another one again, I had enough trouble with them. By the way there are two versions, one is 4500 RPM, another 5600 RPM. The later one is more dangerous in my view. I opened the housing on one of them and there is absolutely nothing to isolate magnet wires from the metal housing. I think only idiot could come up with idea of metal housing for the fan like that but that is what they did. They put some gunk around the corners like that will suffice for the isolation!
Read the article on overclockers.com, it will tell you that even if you have no problem now and if you did not isolate the metal housing from the heatsink, sooner or later you will have a problem with these older versions. Nexfan guy knows about this trouble so he discounted them from $10 to $5 to get rid of old stock.

There is also one heatsink company, I forgot which one, Swiftech(?), openly advising against the use of these fans on their heatsinks.

Actually there is more bad news to this fan than overclockers.com noticed. The metal screw is not only going to be able to conduct electrical current to the heatsink, it is also conducting the heat from the heatsink to the magnet housing so the fan gets warm from the heat of the heatsink!
As far as actual cooling goes, I agree, these fans are effective and rather quiet, at least 4500 RPM one that is nearly silent. But there are just too many risks involved.

I have had three of these fans. Two came from SVC, the last came from nexfan. All three are working flawlessly and all three of them are the higher rpm model. While they do generate a noticable amount of noise, its a not a high pitched annoying whine like the delta screamers. All in all, I have been very pleased with these fans and will continue to use them.

The heatsink mentioned should be fine with a barton 2500. I run a SK6+ with a TMD fan on my newest rig and its a 2100+ @ 2100mhz. Rock stable with 1.65 volts. Runs cool except on these summer days where my room is starting to hit 90 degrees...although its only been 70-75 degrees outside lately.

I actually still have one 4500 RPM that is not used. I plan to put it on SLK-800 the next week, just ordered one from svc. I did put electric tape all over the housing of the fan to avoid any surprises. Thermalright heatsinks are probably the best to use with these fans if you really want them, because Thermalright heatsinks do not use screws.

I gather that nobody has problem with Vantec Aeroflows meaning they use new version of TMD fans that are build with a better housing. I was fond of these fans again all before they shorted out my Epox 8K3A+ motherboard. After that I use them only in Abit boards and would not install it anywhere else.
