Made by Koss for Radio Shack. Model is "Pro 35 Titanium".

I bought a pair last night, after hearing them I went for another pair tonight.

Yeah...you better buy another pair. They'll probably break or malfunction after a month or two....

Hehhehe... Jusk kidding, if they sound good to you, then $19.99 is a Sweet deal. If they cost $40 and sound bad, it's a bad deal

Nice one. :)

I have to second this deal, Radio Shack isn't exactly the place you would find a hot deal, but this is one area that they really come through on.

If you are looking for a Quality pair of Headphones that you can try on and listen to, RS is the place. I went looking for a second pair of headphones to use on the road with my new Inspiron, and RS had a nice pair 50% off and they were exactly what I was looking for.

I had a pair of these headphones before I accidentally killed them. Very very nice headphones.
Get em while you can.

I bought a pair of these for a road trip, and while they are nice,
after wearing them for 6+ hours, I got a nasty head/neck ache
that went away immediately after taking the headphones off. So
I returned mine.

These are made by Koss for RShack. One advantage to buying from Koss is that their headphones have a lifetime warranty. RShack's unfortunately have only 90 days (which I discovered to my chagrin).

Here's the same set of phones for $15 from Amazon.com:

amazon

I believe that buy.com also carries the same set.

A message board thread, found via websearch, mentioned that there's a slight difference between the two (Radio Shack's and Koss's). The difference being that the Pro 35 from Radio Shack had a sensitivity of 108 dB, where the Koss KTX Pro had a sensitivity of 103 dB. This thread from 3dsoundsurge.com seems like a good addition:

I'm the starter of that thread on 3dss (aka "BrianL"). I'm 99% sure these phones are the same thing, even if the spec on sensitivity seems to have a discrepency.

One problem with the Radio Shack phones is that they are so sensitive that it is easy to blow them. If you leave them plugged into a receiver and turn back on your external speakers, by the time you have turned the volume up for the speakers, the headphones are playing (unbeknownst to you) insanely loud, and they will quickly fry. That's why the lifetime warranty for Koss can be a handy thing. Also, the foam earcushions will eventually deteriorate.

Otoh, R.Shack offers instant exchanges within the 90 day warranty, and also no-questions-asked money-back if you don't like them. Either way, it's a good buy.

cremefilled,

So the RadioShack Pro35 Titanium's are identical to the KTXPro's and not the PortaPro's?

Doh, hot deal out the window then. The KTXPro's can be had for $12-15 easily.

btw, I tried out those Aiwa earbuds with the hollow silicon pads ("water-filled" would've been cool, so I was kinda dissapointed to see they were only air-filled. hehe). Like you said, the bass was great on the Aiwas. The higher-end Sony earbuds I had picked up in Japan sounded tinny compared to these. But the treble response from the Aiwas was rather sad...bad enough for me to return it and just get a couple foam ear cushions for my Sony buds. The bass isn't as good as the Aiwas still, but the overall sound is a lot better.

I absolutely *hate* the idea of a "inline volume control." I think it's just plain annoying.

OT query. Do you haul your monitor to Lan parties? Isn't it a bit unwieldy? What's the procedure?

jrichrds, I guess I should be less dogmatic in my posts, both here and on 3DSS, but I am much more sure that the KTXPro's=RShack Pro35's than I am about the older Portapro's=RS Pro25's. I know for a fact that Koss makes many of Radio Shack's headphones--you can even find the Koss imprint on many of them. I also know for a fact that the KTXPro's have identical specs (beyond the sensitivity, which doesn't necessarily mean anything), identical listed parts (down to titanium drivers, 6' cord, etc.), and that they look absolutely identical (down to the same rectangular volume control, the same headband, etc.). Also, the comments on the KTXPro on Amazon.com sound like the Pro35's that I know and enjoy.

Radio Shack also sells some headphones that look virtually identical to the Koss SportaPro's, and at a similar markup over the SportaPro's price. Atrac, you should check out the SportaPro's, which can be found for <$20.

This is a very good pair of headphones. I still have it after 6 years. I have found a good pair for this price a long time. This one is definitely a very good one.

Neat, thanks for the info.
they RadioShack have the KOSS SportaPro clones "well looks the same" (Cat.#: 33-1166) on the website for 19.99 vs 29.99. These are nice, but the KSC-35's (go check out www.koss.com) are what I really like. While the KSC-35 has a funny look, they have the same drivers as the sportapro/portaprojr, but they are comfortable, have good sound quality and do not "squeeze" your head. :)

<<The difference being that the Pro 35 from Radio Shack had a sensitivity of 108 dB, where the Koss KTX Pro had a sensitivity of 103 dB.>>

I just got the Pro35's from RadioShack and the insert says its sensitivity is 103db as well. Not sure where that 108db came from. So these definitely are the KTXPro's then.

I've been using the Pro35s tonight, and I'll have to say, very impressive sound. Tops my $80 Sonys very easily. The fit was tighter than most headphones i've used, but that's probably part of the reason the bass is so good on this unit.

So anyways, I give it a thumbs up too. :) A good value even at $40, it's a great deal at $20. And you can get the equivalent KTX-Pros at Amazon for even cheaper. I got my pair locally in case I didn't like them and wanted to return them.

I git a pair too, but haven't had a chance to listen to some music on them.
Whats wrong w/inline vol control? Sounds like a plus to me!
As far a as schlepping a monitor to LAN parties, you kids are nutz.
For me it would mean carrying a 17in monster down 4 flights of creakly, uneven stairs.
I get veritgo sometimes w/out a heavy monitor! We all need hot dillies big flat screen LCDs. :)

Probably can use this info, but I noticed that my local Hastings Video (Midwest chain, for those of you unfamiliar with it) is closing out the Koss SportaPros for $14.96. These have identical specs with the KTXPro's and the RS Pro35's, so it's probably the same drivers. They are definitely more comfortable, however, either in above-the-head or around-the-head position.
