Nice Cheap & Higher End Digital Cameras??

OK I am looking at getting two digital cameras for X-mas gifts. Both need to be easy Point and Shoot cameras without a lot of options. I need one that is higher end of the spectrum as my father and I are going to split the cost of getting my mother one, then I am getting one by myself for my GF as part of her X-mas.

My mom and GF both have a crappy 1.3/3.2 MP HP camera, No zoom etc... And they both take HORRIBLE pictures. So anything is an upgrade for them.

I am partial to Canon cameras as every canon I have owned has been great (Own and S2 IS right now), and everything else has been crap. I am only familiar right now with higher end stuff that is outta the price range of what we are looking to spend. So anything you can point me to is great.

For the GF I have been looking at the A410, for Mom I have been looking at some Elphs but IDK.

Thanks,
Josh

how much do you want to spend?

Casio Exilim series are good, as well as Canon SD series. I've used the Panasonic Lumix FX-7 for about 4 weeks and it was a great camera.

don't think you can go wrong with an A520 and an S2 IS. I own an S2 myself (love this camera!) and am getting my parents a cheap Canon for Christmas. However they want a small-ish camera so I'm looking at the SD400 for $260 @ Newegg which is a little above what you said you wanted to spend. The S2 is $463 @ Newegg BTW.

I'll sell you my Canon A510 (which had better reviews than the A520) if you're interested. I'm just putting together my ad for the FS/FT forum, but maybe you can save me the time in doing that.

both me and my sister are getting the SD400 from zipzoomfly for $245 as christmas gifts, its an awesome camera. All the features of the big ones. (well most)

well I own the S2IS and it is way to advanced for my mo, I need something very simple, although the S2 is simple if you make it it still has WAY to many possible options to choose from.......

Thanks for the offer Led, but im looking at buying new.

For point and shoot I would definitely go for the Canon SD series... in my experience women love them since they are easy to use and can fit in their purses nicely...

theres nothing complex about the anti shake feature. lets u take better pictures with longer shutter speeds than u would have normally. its very important as non dslr level digicams have small sensors prone to noise...they need light, lots of it, long shutters, and thats all helped by antishake type tech. it makes taking pictures truely easy. all things being equal a n00b photographer will take much better pics with the antishake. everyones suffered the blurry pic thing with cheap digicams😛 all the normal canons have a full automode for point and shoot easiness, u can ignore the rest of the dial.
