Nice article about a Linux-based playstation grid

Stumbled upon it, when looking for articles for DC Paradise. 😀

In the article:
Researchers have made a supercomputer - which is powerful enough to rival the top systems in the world - out of PlayStation 2 components.
A US research centre has clustered 70 Sony PlayStation 2 game consoles into a Linux supercomputer that ranks among the 500 most powerful in the world.

And guess what, it costs 'only' $50.000. 😛

The article itself

Gosh, and here I was, wondering what I was going to do with all those extra PS/2s in my basement...er, wrong PS/2.. DRAT! :disgust:

NWM, you know it was a big mistake to bring up that topic, right? 😉

The first computer I ever used (when I was about 5 or 6) was an IBM PS/2 model 50. With an Intel 80286 processor, 1MB of RAM, a 20MB hard disk, no sound, a monochrome monitor (16 shades of gray were possible), and DOS 3.3, it was quite a reliable system (it never locked up... ever!), though slow even in its day. BASICA was fun. 😀

I've thought about getting a PS/2 with a 486 and a more reasonable amount of RAM for nostalgic purposes, and to load Linux on it just for gits and shiggles... though I don't know where I'd find a MCA ethernet card. :Q

You're really dating yourself there Josh; my first experience with computers go back to the Heath & C= days. :Q Earlier, if you count the mainframes where my dad was at General Motors. 😉
