Crimson Coated Soliders
A poem about the Boston Massacre

A nosy little runt and a mere child and minor.
Bothers the redcoat, slowly encouraging rage.

As each time the boy taunts the crimson coated soldier,

As each time insults passed his ears.

And as each disgraceful face reaches the soldier¡¯s eyes
the soldier¡¯s anger advances.
Until the sound of a shot echoed through the air, many ears heard the sound.
As the story spreads around, the story bends and twists.
Twists and turns in the story, more and more the story passes,
more and more the story twists.

An angry mob flushed with hatred, rage but misunderstanding.
Deceived, deceivers red with fury.
They fall before the gun, yet rise above the wielder.
As men fall the horde grows stronger.
One man, two men, three men, four men
as the fifth man falls the crowd began a frenzy of murderous actions
The soldier scared
Pale and white as snow around them
As the snow they were pale and white¡¦
and as the snow they met upon their fate.
Defeated and cold are the soldiers of red
With faces of sorrow and madness upon there heads.

------

I don't know about you. But it's thoroughly impressive for his age. Even more to me because I always view him as a child (I'm 20).

Me: I'm very proud of you!
Him: Thx :D
Me: (some more love-filled compliments)
Me: by the way, is it completely original?
Him: completely original
Me: The teacher didn't help you revise or anything?
Him: Nope

The real significance of this event was that it gave rebellious leaders propaganda against the British. Sam Adams has been accused of actually instigating the whole event for just this purpose. Popular legend has made these colonials who died heroes and martyrs, they were neither. It is widely accepted now that those who died were no more than the unlucky members of an angry crowd. The British were tried for their acts, defended by John Adams, and were aqcuited.

Never knew about this event, but somehow I am more willing to believe this account. (linky)
