NIC question.

What is the difference between say:

LINKSKEY (REALTEK CHIPSET) PCI ETHERNET CARD 10/100 LKF5100+ PCI Card

and

3COM 905CX-TXNM PCI 10/100 network card OEM version *No Wake-Up*

besides about $23?

For a home office network, will the LINKSKEY NIC be sufficient?

I have found out that network cards are a matter of personal preference. I go with 3com network cards because odds are I will upgrade my machine or the card will go obselete before it goes bad. I still have a old ISA 3com card that works like a champ (not that I use it anymore).

Quite frankly, I would stick with 3com, SMC, and Intel. I have had good luck with all those brands. I haven't heard any horror stories either though from other brands.

I found that the rule is:

If you need a NIC for small Home/SOHO Network, that is under your personal control buy the Cheapest 10/100TX card that you can find.

If you are installing in an office/cooperate network buy 3com/Intel or similar NIC.
