NIC Problem - Fails internal loopback test...help please.

I just installed a NIC in my 3rd computer to hook up to my LAN at home. The dang thing won't connect to the network. I ran the diagnostics test from the manufacturer, Linksys, and I'm getting a failure on the internal loopback test. How can I correct this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running windows 98SE on a TCP/IP network.

put a new nic in there.

I agree if you ran a hardware diagnostic and it's failing it's definately time to replace it... If it's new take it back if not, the Linksys 10/100 PCI cards can be had for around $20 at CompUSA.

Try it in PCI slot 2 or 3, and no sharing of its IRQ.

I don't think it is a bad card because a Netgear card gave me the same problems. I just popped a different card in there to make sure.

I'll try switching slots again.

I know it give some kind of networking signal, because when I set it to the same IP number as another computer on the network, I get a conflicting address error.

Any more suggestions??

I switched slots with the video card, because I know the video card works, and its up and running! Who'd uh thunk it.

Try removing and reinstalling TCP/IP. It sounds like the TCP/IP stack is corrupt. The loopback test should be the same as pinging your loopback address,or 127.0.0.1
This tests the TCP/IP stack.
