Well, my dad just got cable and we're both hooked up via a Linksys router/switch.
I'm using a relatively older Kingston NIC (KNE110TX I think, been discontinued in any case). Right now I have it in the last PCI slot on my BH6. My problem is that I can't get anything to reside in the slot above it.
When I first installed the NIC I had a Soundblaster Live! in the next to last slot (above the NIC). After installing and rebooting the audio had tons of static and crackling, and trying to open an MP3 in Winamp resulted in my PC thrashing and inevitabling hanging and crashing. I uninstalled the soundblaster and tried to move it where my Tekram DC-390 SCSI card was and moved the Tekram down to the slot above the NIC. Upon rebooting, Windows found the SCSI card but would hang whenever it tried to install the software drivers for it. I tried it numerous times and each time the PC would just hang on the install of the SCSI card's drivers. So as of right now I don't have the SCSI card installed (because I use my soundcard more than my CD-R).
Now, I'm debating whether to go out and buy a newer NIC from Netgear or D-Link or something to see if that would remedy the situation. I'm not sure if that would help the situation or if this is just a problem that will appear with any card. Perhaps because of some kind of hardware conflict or something, therefore I'm hesitant to go spend money on something that may not solve the problem. I can't find any obvious IRQ conflicts. The Kingston NIC is sharing IRQ 11 with "Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller" (whatever that is), but that doesn's sound like it would be part of this problem.
Does anyone have any ideas? Would a different NIC help? And yes, I am using the latest drivers for the Kingston card from their website. Thanks all.
