I have an old IBM 200MHz computer that is running windows 98 se. I have installed a Linksys LNE100TX network card in it. It recognizes the card and all installs fine, but the computer won't connect to the internet (college LAN). I tried checking the IP of the card through dos.....but it gives me an error and says there is a configuration problem. Does anyone know how to correct this problem? Thanks

Is it set for dhcp?

Is TCP/IP is on?

Can you ping the loop back address (127.0.0.1)?

Can you ping your gateway?

Can you ping the DNS?

What IP do you get when you run winipcfg ?

Also could try a /release & /renew.

In "Control Panel"> "Network", do you have TCP/IP installed as a protocol? Do what Lowtech says and go to "start"> "run"...Type in winipcfg and see what comes up. While your machine is hooked up with the network connection, hit release and then renew . When you release. it should zero out the ip address numbers. When you renew, it should give you some new ones. You should be good to go if you get the new numbers.
