NIC destroys network

The onboard Marvell Yukon NIC on my Asus A8V is giving me problems. I noticed it Friday morning when my backup to my server that started at 1am had not finished. Transfers would happen in small bursts of a few hundred K, then nothing. While it was attempting to backup to the server, internet connectivity was cut back, as if it were dropping packets. When I stopped the backup, everything worked fine. I can copy to machines over my 802.11b network without issue, up to 600KB/sec (normal). Copying to any computer via the wire results in a hammered, slow network. Copying between my server and my laptop via the switch is fine. Note that I've never had a problem before Friday. Equipment has not changed except for a new case earlier in the week. Here is what I've tried:

Power cycle switch
Reload driver
New cable
New port on switch
New switch
Reload Windows from scratch

I don't know what else to try except replacing the motherboard (or getting a PCI NIC). Is there any reason my new P180 case would cause a problem like this?

I have had onboard network controllers go bad on me without rhyme or reason. Try a PCI NIC, thats what I would have done before the windows re-install.

Yeah, I put in a spare 10/100 NIC and it flies again. Sucks, as I was planning to upgrade to a gigabit switch. It doesn't make sense to buy a gigabit NIC for this comp, as I'll end up replacing the whole mb in 6 months anyway.
