nic card acting up after hooking up to new switch

after wiring my house with a cat5 drop in each room, i found that i needed atleast 3 drops in my bedroom for my computer, xbox, replaytv. i knew i needed a switch for lan party's aswell so i went and bought a 8 port linksys switch. i have the wall jack hooked to the uplink port, because the house network runs off an 8 port dlink switch. now my problem is that when i have my laptop in my bed hooked up to the swtich it connects, then says the cable is unplugged, then it connects again, no cable.....etc. i tried different ports and cables to no avail. all of the other equipment works fine off the switch and the docking station works fine as well. also, the nic works fine when i plug directly into the wall. any suggestions as to why this would do this? thanks!
