NIC always active

I have a small network. Two PC's and a laptop connected to a cable modem via a Linksys router. On the router, there are lights that light up when the computers boot up and sync. One one PC, the lights (on the router) stay on all the time (for that port), when I turn the computer off. The other two ports turn off. This NIC is staying active all the time. I have tried to switch ports and no change. Everything works fine, I just am concerned that the 24/7 running will eventually wear out the NIC. Thanks for any help.

I think those are wol (wake on lan) nics, always power if there is power or signal going through them..

Yep! As Forcesho and Garion have stated previously, this is very normal with a WOL-capable NIC. I went through the same questionning myself a few months ago, thinking "why is that %&@*! light still on on my router..." Having been told about this WOL thing, I thought: Hey! Since this "newest computer with the big hard disk acting as the file server at the other side of the house down in the basement" is the one with WOL, why not use that feature? So now, when I need files (or the printer) from that very remote computer, and that it has been turned off, I just click on an icon, wait 30 seconds or so for the network services to start, and voila! You may want to consider this as well as it is a cool feature that requires no further investment.
